
Students participating in the CGC gain hands-on knowledge about agriculture and agricultural science, an understanding of nutrition at the organic level, and help the community surrounding NCCU gain access to fresh vegetables and herbs all while collecting community service hours for their hard work. Members also have the chance to visit surrounding farms and agricultural sites to gather more information about promoting healthy and diverse living. Sites that the CGC has attended so far include:

Pine Knot Farms (Hurdle Mills, NC), a third-generation Black-owned certified organic farm and 2013 Farmer of the Year Award winner from the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association


ABOUT US
The Campus Garden Committee (CGC) at North Carolina Central University was founded in September 2015 in an effort to provide a governing student organization for NCCU students who participate in the maintenance of the campus garden located between the Mary Townes Science and BRITE buildings.
